Glaciology, scientific discipline concerned with all aspects of ice on landmasses. It deals with the structure and properties of glacier ice, its formation and distribution, the dynamics of ice flow, and the interactions of ice accumulation with climate. Glaciological research is conducted with a variety of methods. The internal structure of glaciers, for example, is studied by means of radar.

glaciology[‚glāshē′äləjē] (geology) A broad field encompassing all aspects of the study of ice: glaciers, the largest ice masses on earth; ice that forms on rivers, lakes, and the sea; ice in the ground, including both permafrost and seasonal ice such as that which disrupts roads; ice that crystallizes directly from the air on structures. The Glaciology Curriculum consists of 19 modules covering various aspects of glaciology with focus on providing understanding about glacier dynamics, glacier process and landforms, impacts of changing climate on glacier behavior and glacier hazards. The curriculum provides a global perspective with emphasis on the Himalayan and the Alps regions.

Intro to Glaciology Drs. Glaciology definition is - any of the branches of science dealing with snow or ice accumulation, glaciation, or glacial epochs. The International Glaciological Society was founded in to provide a focus for individuals interested in practical and scientific aspects of snow and ice.

We are its friends and fans. This isn’t the case with “The Secret Lives of Glaciers,” a newly published book by American geographer, glaciologist and National Geographic writer M Jackson. The book takes the unusual tack of reporting climate change as a series of stories told by M and the people she meets during her time spent researching glaciers in Höfn.

The book aims to shed light on some of the unexplored aspects of global warming and glaciology. It is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex theories and principles in the field of glaciology and global warming.
